The Pregnancy Center of Central Iowa was established in 1991. Our purpose is to provide education, practical help and caring support for moms, babies & families. All services are free and confidential.

Who We Are - Staff

Executive Director - Rita Baker

I come to PCCI with a long history of non-profit affiliation and board work. In the ten plus years I have served as Director, we have expanded our facility to house even more services, curricula for educational opportunities, and resources. We also have developed a large source of partnering agencies to whom we can refer our clients for additional help in navigating life circumstances.

I am the mother of two adult sons and daughters-in-love. Brett and Jami live in Dallas, Texas. Kirk Jenny, and my granddaughter Stephanie Grace live on the Island of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

I am blessed to work with an amazing staff at PCCI. We all strive to share the journey of family with our mothers, their babies and families. Our primary message for them is that God loves them, and so do we.

I was born in a home for unwed mothers and was placed for adoption. I had the best of childhoods and wish every child could feel the same kind of love, support and discipline that I was blessed with during my growing up years.

Administrative Assistant - Sheila Bower

I grew up in Indianola and quickly wanted to spread my wings after college. I lived in Dallas, Texas for 10 years and then moved to central Minnesota where I lived for 20 years. Now I’ve found my way back to Iowa to be closer to my parents and sister, who live here in Newton.

I’ve been a stay at home mom since my twins were born prematurely in 1998. Before they were born, I had started my parenting “career” to an amazing 7-year-old step-daughter who broke me in really quick to the ins and outs of parenting and I was hooked. She’s also added Gigi to my title with 4 ornery boys. One of my twins has added a daughter-in-law (and another grandson due in May 2024) and the other twin has added an additional grandson. And I round things up with one final daughter. So, if you were keeping count, 4 kids, a son-in-law, daugther-in-law and 5 (almost 6) grandsons.

I’ve enjoyed being on many boards or volunteer committees over the years. I’ve also been extremely active in my church community, especially with the youth group. We’re also huge animal lovers at our house. Our current zoo includes 3 cats, 2 black Labrador Retrievers, one Pomeranian and a long-haired Corgi.
